Sissach BL: “Regret the escalation” – KESB has been besieged for a week

For a week, vaccination opponents have besieged the Child and Adult Protection Authority in Sissach (KESB), because it should enforce a court-ordered vaccination of two children. Now the authority speaks for the first time.

“We regret that this individual case is receiving so much attention. In our opinion, this does not help those affected,” say Nathalie Henzi and Ursula Trachsler, co-presidents of the Gelterkinden-Sissach Child and Adult Protection Authority. For a week now, the authority has been under siege. Opponents of vaccination are holding vigils outside the authority’s office and municipal police officers are securing the office. “We regret the escalation,” said the authority’s co-head.

An expulsion of the activists has not been ordered so far. It is a matter of public ground, explains co-leader Nathalie Henzi. The work of the authority has not been affected by this so far. “We are doing our work as usual.”

The background to the protest is a measles vaccination ordered by the federal court for two children aged eight and ten. The separated parents, who share custody, could not agree on the issue of measles vaccination. The father requested that the children be vaccinated, while the mother objected. According to the Federal Supreme Court, in such a stalemate, the Federal Office of Public Health, as the competent federal authority, is the guiding authority.

KESB is obliged to enforce the court order due to the domicile of the child’s mother. For more than a year, the authority had repeatedly tried to resolve the matter amicably. So far, this has not been successful. The matter escalated a week ago when it became known that the children’s measles vaccination could also be carried out under police coercion if the child’s mother did not fulfill her obligation within the set deadline, which expired last Friday. The children have not been vaccinated until today.

Doctor’s address published

The opponents of vaccination have been trying for a week with public pressure to overturn the court decision. The mother has meanwhile taken her children out of school, according to a letter circulating on Telegram. In it, she claims “psychological pressure.” Leading the actions is a child protection association with domicile in Ticino, which advises the mother. The association has also made public the address of the doctor who was supposed to vaccinate the children and is covering up KESB with letters and alleged evidence to prove that the vaccine is dangerous.
